2026 – 2027 Cycle

Seventh Grade

Ages 12 – 13

ONUS Scholars Seventh Grade is the Forging Year — the crucible where reasoning turns to argument, decoding to analysis, and arithmetic to algebra. Built as a full 36 instructional weeks across four nine-week quarters, five days a week, with each day running about five hours in six focused blocks, it carries the world-history arc from the Renaissance to the present, covers all of Grade 7 mathematics to mastery with fenced Grade-8 previews, and ends with a self-directed MLA research capstone presented to family.

The year is built on the ONUS five-method blend — Montessori as the daily backbone (the work cycle, independent scholarship, practical life), Singapore Math’s Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract progression on every new concept, Reggio Emilia’s child-as-researcher working from primary sources across every era, Waldorf’s in-breath/out-breath daily and seasonal rhythm with arts woven throughout, and World Book scope-and-sequence alignment. The year moves through four themed quarters — Awakening, Upheaval, Machine, and Modern — from the Renaissance and Reformation through the Age of Revolutions and the Industrial Age to the modern world, with the dialectic stage of logic and rhetoric carried through every week.

What your child will achieve

Nine strands, one year of growth.

Reading & Vocabulary

Daily analysis, close reading, and discussion, paced to the grade.

Seventh Grade objective

Analyzes theme, character, argument, and author’s craft across drama, novels, and primary sources — including a Shakespeare play; builds a reading vocabulary of about 25,000-plus words with Tier 2 and Tier 3 academic and domain terms; and reads independently every day.

Mathematics

Singapore CPA progression — concrete to pictorial to abstract.

Seventh Grade objective

Masters the full Grade 7 sequence — rational-number operations, proportional relationships and percent, two-step equations and inequalities, geometry (scale, circles, area, surface area, volume), and statistics and probability — with fenced Grade-8 previews of linear equations, slope, and the Pythagorean theorem.

Writing

From analysis to argument to long-form research, step by step.

Seventh Grade objective

Produces literary-analysis, argumentative, informative, and narrative essays, and an original MLA research paper with a thesis and multiple sources; composes and publishes all essays, research, and the capstone by keyboard in MLA format.

Science

Reggio-style investigations the child documents themselves.

Seventh Grade objective

Studies the middle-school Life and Environmental band at high-school-readiness depth — cells and body systems, ecosystems and matter and energy, human impact and climate, and evolution and biodiversity — and completes an engineering-design project.

Social Studies / History

Primary-source study of the wider world across time.

Seventh Grade objective

Runs world history from the Renaissance to the present — the Reformation, the Scientific Revolution, the Enlightenment, the Age of Revolutions (including the Haitian and Latin American revolutions), industrialization, imperialism and resistance, the World Wars, decolonization, and the global human-rights era.

Arts

Seasonal Waldorf art tied to the era studied.

Seventh Grade objective

Reads and creates in the Baroque through Modern tradition — Caravaggio and Rembrandt, Neoclassical and Romantic, Realism through Post-Impressionism, and Cubism and contemporary art — connecting each movement to its historical era in a year-long sketchbook.

Music

Listening, performance, and history woven through the week.

Seventh Grade objective

Identifies and appreciates Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th-century music — Bach and Vivaldi through Mozart and Beethoven to jazz and modernism — including the roots of the blues and jazz.

SEL: Character & Logic

Logic, rhetoric, and ethics built into the week.

Seventh Grade objective

Applies formal logic and rhetoric to argument; reasons about ethics; practices digital citizenship and media literacy; and writes and opens the sealed letters.

Practical Life

Montessori care of self and independence — the work that grounds the day.

Seventh Grade objective

Manages time and long projects independently; applies basic financial literacy (budgeting, saving, interest); uses research and digital tools responsibly; keyboards fluently at roughly 30-35+ WPM in MLA format; contributes to home life; and presents a self-directed capstone.

How the five methods show up here

Five lineages, each week.

I.

Montessori

Backbone

The work cycle, independent scholarship, and practical life anchor concentration and self-direction every single day.

II.

Singapore Math

CPA Progression

Every new concept moves Concrete → Pictorial → Abstract — two-color counters and algebra tiles before the written expression, on rational numbers, proportions, and equations.

III.

Reggio Emilia

Child as Researcher

History and science unfold as documented research from primary sources, culminating in a self-directed MLA research capstone.

IV.

Waldorf

Rhythm & Arts

An in-breath/out-breath daily rhythm — six focused blocks with era-aligned art and music, drawn by hand and heard by ear on a seasonal cadence.

V.

World Book

Standards Aligned

Every strand cross-checked against grade-level benchmarks, confirming the child meets or exceeds the full CCSS Grade 7, NGSS middle-school, and C3 expectations.

The year at a glance

Four quarters, one rising arc.

Seventh Grade quarter arc — weeks, quarter name, and academic focus for Q1 through Q4.
